18 Months
J is now 18 months. He has 4 chunky molars.
They all came through together so I think they have caused him some discomfort, all helped along with boobah I am sure. He is still growing strong on breastmilk. He does eat other foods but he is quite fussy, or should I say discerning, about what he chooses to eat. Sleeps with Mum and Dad, feeding oft during the night, does not believe in daily naps other than in Mama's arms or in the car.
He is very content and a joy. He loves his brothers and sister and has a way of acting much older when they are around, though he is still the baby and cries if he needs to. He doesn't talk but makes plenty of sounds and can communicate nonetheless. He seems to know the Maori vowels AEIOU and laughs when I sing them.
J's hair is getting so long (rat tail) and even has the curls still. He has yet to have a haircut and I am in no rush to cut it at this stage.
J is becoming more aware of his body and though not using the toilet or potty he knows what they are for. He is likely to clean up an accident of his own accord. He loves making a mess (feeding himself or playing in dirt) and thankfully also likes to bathe. He likes to feed himself and drinks out of a big cup though he does have his own "sippy cup".
J likes to be involved in what we are doing. whether it is playing with Mama's wool or drawing like his big sister or just playing on the computer with his brothers. He also wants to go out with Dad whenever he goes out. He will search for his shoes and even if he has no other clothes on, its enough for him!
J likes to walk. We have rarely used the pram and lately I have noticed we rarely use a baby carrier. He likes to push the button when we come to the pedestrian lights. He straddles as if he is many years older, but he is still my baby.

(I used 3.5mm hook and 5ply wool/acrylic)
(Worked in DC) Started with 5sts, inc in each st for 2 rows, dc in each st for one row, inc in each st for one row, dc for 5 rows with no inc. Ribbing - alternate fpdc, bpdc for 4 rows

Baby shower
Cong(r)atulations its a girl!
My Mum, my daughter and I celebrated with my cousin's girlfriend who is due with their first child.
My daughter loved the food and talking as well as the games which she did well at, winning a few prizes. It was so nice to hear how informed the Mum -to-be is on birth and that she wants for a natural birth.
She appreciated the gifts I made which is always nice to see.

Hays Paddock
Hays Paddock has a playground for children of all abilities. I heard about it a while back and thought it would be worth visiting and the kids would hopefully enjoy a play there. The weather turned and our plans were not to be that day. Instead hailstorms ravaged Melbourne.
We made a detour at the smoke, visited a friend, the sky got dark and we had hail banging down on our car. We didn't realise how big the hail was til I saw photos online. As big as golfballs.
Here, Av holds hail for the first time.
This is at Hays Paddock. We arrived just as the hail came down.
On Labour Day we made another trip to the playground.
The kids had a great time. Of course, J fell asleep and missed out on the fun.

Hoot! Hoot! Rocky Creek
Knitted owl cables are cool but I think crocheted cables especially owl cables are cooler!
I wanted to crochet a pair of overalls with a bib and brace. I like the back of these. I had an idea, tried it and it worked.
Crocheted from cestari from The Yarn Cafe. The edges are crab stitch in a super bulky Cestari.

A few finished things.
I have been working on a few things for a swap as well as these.
This was meant for my daughter's birthday but I waited a while for the yellow to arrive. It is Woolganics 10ply. My daughter requested a shawl in blue/pink/yellow.
Another tikki test singlet. This one is in Debbie Bliss Eco cotton. I love this colour.
Here is J wearing the singlet and another Vanilla, this time in 14ply Shetland and super bulky undyed Cestari.
A dress I made for my Mum to give my cousin who is due to have a baby next month.
I have also been making a few hats.

Love of learning
We had a surprise letter come in the mail saying that our daughter was nominated by her school principal and the Council had chosen her as a winner of an award. This was to be given out an award ceremony with 40 other students. We were taken aback but quite proud. She also receives a computer, printer and internet access for a year so not bad at all!
The idea is to make knowledge through computers and net access available to all people regardless of their circumstances. Though it true we have several computers, it will be good to have another with so many people wanting to learn and play games in the house.
When I was my daughter's age (all those years ago!) I don't think I had even seen a computer up close. In grade 6 we saw a computer in our classroom (Parklands now defunct) once a week as maybe 2 students (never myself) got to touch the computer as we crowded around to play Where in the World is san Diego?
When I was in grade 10-12 it started to be necessary to use the computers for assignments. We had some access to computers but it was limited. My daughter at about the age of 4 got the first computer in our home as a gift from my brother (a computer technician), so this will be her second computer.
We have only been online for less than 4 years. It is an amazing tool. Maybe a time waster as well as a time saver. Like many things it can be great and terrible!
Anyway, our daughter was able to take only 2 people to this event so it was just us and it was lovely to just focus on her for one night. And look another photo with me in it that I didn't take!
The mayor spoke as did some representatives of the sponsors. The students were all invited to receive their certificate and have a photo taken. Even their names were large on the screen.
It was a friendly evening with many people to talk to and plenty of refreshments.

Albert Park Lake
We often go places where the kids can play while Daddy goes for his run. This time we went to Albert park Lake. I have just bought a new camera and wanted to test it out some. Its not the best but it will have to do and hopefully it will be okay for my daughter to use when I get one I prefer.
I am loving the relationship between my youngest sons. My 4yo adores his baby brother and I know the feeling is mutual.
