Cooking and mish mash in June

I have been thinking the camera I have is not that great but I am working out to use it and I am getting better results. There may be hope for me yet. I bought the camera because I felt I needed it and thought I could buy a better one and give this one to my daughter.

I have got very behind in blog posts so I will share a few things.
Av has been drawing and writing which is awesome.

We visited the school on the last day of term for school sports. My daughter won an award for sportsmanship in her grade level. She won a movie ticket so I took her to see Mamaduke.

Something else we have been getting into is learning to cook. My staple meals that I make are pasta, simple and cheap. I make a mean pasta sauce! I also make stir fry. All vegetarian of course.  Apart from that I am not much of a cook. Av is very much into cutting vegetables and helping with cooking and we have felt inspired to learn to make a few things from scratch.

This is pesto pizza which is delicious! I have been even baking which is not really my thing. Using apple and pear to make pastries. We also made hash brown from scratch which is quite involved. Next on the list is making our own bread. Artisan bread sounds interesting.

I am still knitting and crochet more than I probably need to! I just can't help myself. Mostly hats atm.

Community Festival

We got a pamphlet in our mailbox which Av promtly stole and looked through. It was for the local community festival and he had spotted the kids cooking session. He was so excited about going and I thought why not? He was not quite old enough (targeted for 5-15 years) but N decided he would go too so it was worth going.

They started with pizza topping. I think it was overwhelming for Av though N really got into it and took it very seriously.

They also made berry muffins. Av came into his own when he carefully put his mixture in the pan. The teacher came over and was so amazed by this that she awarded him a prize. He was taken aback by the attention and went shy. He was too cute apparently.

N also got the same prize (sushi making kit) for answering a question about leafy vegetables.

The muffins looked delicious and the pizza was good too.

They each got a showbag and all this for free, I thought that a great deal.

There was free entertainment and much to see.

N had a go at hip hop dancing at the workshop. He was given loads of attention and he was really keen on it.

We were joined by J and Dad.

The boys got a ride in a teacup!

It was a fun and worthwhile day.

Kids in the month of May

My littliest boy will be 8 months tomorrow. He has started getting up to stand supported. He doesn't quite know how to get back down though. He has started to be more clingy to me, even attached to me all night.

My daughter is officially a St Johns junior cadet. She enjoys going and feels settled in. She is still very excited about art school. She has started painting. The subject is still fruit for the purpose of learning. She can choose what to paint next.

Meanwhile my eldest son is allowing me to teach him a few basics on the guitar. He is passionate about learning.

Av has needed an outlet as he is very active. He usually crashes out and has a nap most days but can be full on when awake. He gladly calls himself a chatterbox and as such his vocabulary has improved. Lately he has enjoyed cutting up vegees and cooking in a little pan. He has a passion for it and its great to see.
