Hippy Birthday

I had another birthday. And if they get less sucky as I get older I wont mind. I was given a card from my kids. Then my husband and I went to dinner in the City. It was a nice day and I couldn't ask for more.

I made this for myself on my birthday. I thought it would be too warm to wear...it was freezing!

Australia day

Also known as Invasion day. I have known this but only came to a relaisation how offensive it can be for people to celebrate Australia day in the way many people do. We don't really celebrate it, don't understand the point really. For us, its a family day. But I used the opportunity to discuss it with my daughter. She has started to become very interested in current affairs and news. This is good but she is very impressionable, believing almost anything she hears. I figure she will learn how to balance out ideas in time. I know for me, it took time not to have my opinion sway with others and even today I can question my views as I learn more. This must be a good thing.

We took the kids to a park where it was quite busy so the boys made friends fast.

We went to the resevoir where we had roos trailing our van.
They stopped when we stopped. It was quite amusing.

What does one wear on Australia Day? If you are under 2 and have not much choice, maybe tartan pants and a Maori bone around the neck. Of course.

My youngest niece turns one.

Absolutely amazing cake scupture weighing around 20kgs. Thats a lot of icing!

It was a good day with no travel dilemnas and a fun party.

Colouring

The boys drowning some Cassade in red and blue food colouring.

Some interesting colour tones in this.

Melbourne Museum

After the protest rally, we took the kids to the Melbourne Museum.

We managed to see all the exhibits and the kids enjoyed the childrens play area.

Homebirth is safe

Homebirth horror headlines?

The AMA president Andrew Pesce thinks homebirth is unsafe but we know better.

Our first family protest.

My daughter was very excited.

Junstine Caines was interrupted by heavy machinery.

Its hard not to feel weary after each protest wondering why people can't see how natural things happen in the best way when left alone. And its strange we have to fight for our choices to do things naturally.

In the summer time, in the city

Gorgeous but not easy

And because it looks better on a cute bubba....

Crocheted hats, easy. Right? Not this one. It took me a while to even get it started. But the result is interesting and even better, practical. It fits and its lovely.
I used Woolganics 8ply and Treliske trim.

Avatar

Taken the kids to see movies so it was now hubby's turn. He had been wanting to watch this movie so we saw Avatar. It was interesting, people wanting to make money and "progress" pushing people out of their homes with ho respect for nature.

Park crawl

When its just one of those days, the kids just want to go on a park crawl.

At the next playground, it rained.
I noticed these sculptures. I am sure they were originally at Queens Park in the form of a maze around 10 years ago.

Kids were getting tired by the time we got to the third park though I think Av could have kept going.

Torquay

We took a family drive and ended up in Torquay.

We enjoyed the open music.

Not many good pictures but its always fun to be with family away from home.

On the Go-veralls

A fun pattern, I made these for my 4 year old who has always loved overalls. They are shorts length and knitted with a  milk/acrylic yarn.

They fit J but are longer in the leg on him.

Beautiful day at the beach with the boys

Usually we go down to Williamstown or South Melbourne, but we kept driving and ended up in Mordialloc which was really nice. The waves were wild for us and it was lovely to see my big boys were able to judge for themselves how much they could handle. They knocked me around thats for sure. There was no staying dry in that water.

J seemed perplexed about what we were playing at but was happy as long as Mama or Dad was holding him.

He loved the sand though he seemed unsure of what it was, as he picked it up and let it go over and over.

My little boy moved around the tent we set up, slowly walking over the uneven sand.

Meanwhile the big boys played, making sandcastles and splashing in the water.
They had gone to the beach the day before with Dad.

My 6yo came to watch the soccer game played on the beach with J who was mesmerised by it. He was even making noises at them!

I enjoyed the day. It reminded very much of  when I was young, a child. Our babysitter would take us. We used to bodysurf and jump the waves.
