R U OK? Creepy guy ruins weird movie.

Today is R U OK? day. Please do not ask, I am far from okay. I have been mostly bed ridden for the past few weeks. Last night I made an attempt to go out just with my Mum as she had free tickets to see "The Other Guys" Its just a strange movie. About halfway, a creepy guy sits by me. My heart starts beating very fast and honestly I am scared. I am weak because I have been struggling to eat and the last thing I want is to have to fight and protect myself. I sit fairly motionless with my hands at my face, completely unable to concentrate on the movie. I feel him moving and then he turns on his mobile and shines it over the lollies I had. I turn to him, he asks if I bought them at the front. I say No. He says Oh at Coles?. Yes. I turn away wishing he would just move. I cough and he asks if Ia m okay?! I shake my head cos I am honestly not. He finally gets up and decides to shuffle past us. This is a mostly empty movie theatre and he chooses to sit by us and then push past us? It was incredibly creepy. By this stage I am annoyed and I am glad he has left us so I can breathe. I considered leaving the cinema and complaining to management because he ruined the weird movie. We leave and talk to the security just outside. They noticed the creepy guy and his friend. There is no phones that are safely nearby so security thankfully let us use their phone so I can call my husband to pick us up. Its quite possible that they were stoned and possibly looking for a wallet or something. I couldn't care less if he took my lollies. Normally I wouldn't be as freaked out especially when I am taller and bigger than some men but still feeling threatened in my space and unwell is not right. And crazies carry knives. You just can not feel 100% safe in this world.

Throwing Out the lies with the birth water

Last night we attended the Melbourne screening of  "Throwing out the lies with the birth water" by Rani O'Keefe (pic by BellyBelly Kelly.) [We were at the back, my husband is in this photo in blue.] I had to stand for the movie but it was worth it. Rhea Dempsey spoke about the need for women to have access to their birthing hormones and instincts and getting to that place where the neo cortex is gone! The way she explained it was very insightful. The movie was about the situation in the Blue Mountains where its become difficult for women to travel to birth and how its essential that women can choose to stay home.

After the movie, Alex Bhathal, a Greens politician from Batman electorate spoke on where the Green party stand as far as the Maternity Reform making it effectively impossible for women to have birth choices. They hope to have enough power in Parliament that they may start from scratch with Maternity Reform, that is really the only hope.

A video on how Julia Gillard has shown her lack of concern for women today in Australia.

Speaking of politics, the Federal election is on Saturday (21st August). At the moment we are in caretaker mode in Australia (with Julia Gillard as our first female prime minister). I think that means even campaigns are slow and boring!
In our electorate we are a safe Labor seat. I often see Labor posters and occasionally Greens but never Liberal. My daughter brought me a little info on the local Greens candidate on a mailout she found on the way home from school. I could only find one article on our local candidate. She is 1st on the ballot paper. My other choices are Family First and Socialist so I am decided. I will vote below the line on the white paper and for which I only have a rough idea how I will vote at this stage.
There are independants standing in 4 areas of Australia who need votes to stand up against those who oppose birth choices.  Sally Anne Brown for Corangamite (VIC), Michelle Meares for Robertson (NSW), Amy Bell for Macquarie (QLD), Rebecca Jenkinson for Dickson, (QLD).
Michelle Meares, Amy Bell, Sally-Anne Brown and Rebecca Jenkinson are standing in marginal seats of Robertson, Macquarie, Corangamite and Dickson respectively.

Avatar

Taken the kids to see movies so it was now hubby's turn. He had been wanting to watch this movie so we saw Avatar. It was interesting, people wanting to make money and "progress" pushing people out of their homes with ho respect for nature.

Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 - The squeakel

I took the kids, again to see a movie. This time it was more crowded and the kids seemed more cranky so it wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been.

We were going to see The Princess and the frog but the reviews and thoughts on that have been less than enticing. We finally decided on seeing Alvin and the Chipmunks.

At least my 6yo said it was the best movie he had ever seen. How we love music!

Planet 51

I took the awesome 4 to have lunch and see Planet 51. They wanted to see Cloudy with a chance of meatballs but we missed our opportunity.

The kids had fun so we may do it again soon. It was a strange movie - made humans look very stupid not that it made aliens look very smart but maybe they were making fun of how non thinking  people are day to day?

2012

I have seen this twice. Any truth to the message, I am unsure. But the movie was quite fun and though I found it unbelievable I found it very interesting.

Jewish Holocaust Muesum

My Mum had free family ticket to see 3D Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs at the Jam Factory. She took the big kids and we took the opportunity to visit the Holocaust Muesum like we have wanted to for a few years now.
It was the first time I had met Holocaust survivors which it made it very real.

We were interested to find that the Australian Aboriginal people protested the actions of the Nazis before the fact. There were many who didn't speak up til it was far too late. Unfortunately the Aboriginal people were basically ignored in Australian papers.

"In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;

And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;

And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;

And then... they came for me... And by that time there was no one left to speak up." Original and translation here

There were a few 'heroes' who did help (or hinder the Nazi cause). The righteous amongst the nations.

Why did one volunteer choose to come to Australia? Because it was as far as he could get away from the atrocities without freezing in Antartica.

I have read and heard much about the Holocaust but not much about any resistance. I found this information very interesting, especially how many knowing certain death they still fought with dignity. There was also passive resistance ie. putting on performances in the ghettos and finding extra food.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Apart from the over pornification/sexualisation of the female characters I really enjoyed the movie. It was very funny in places and the visual effects were amazing.

Night at the Muesum 2: Battle of the Smithonians

My daughter and my Mum saw this movie a couple weeks ago. She came back asking me questions related to historical figures featured in the movie. My daughter was on camp on Monday-Wednesday. I thought I would take the boys on Tuesday, hubby wanted to come so our big boy went to school instead. That is, we didn't see the movie til the evening. During the day we went to the library in the hope I could find Elizabeth Zimmerman pattern.
Anyway, it was an okay movie. Probably more based on American history but still interesting. We rarely go the cinema but we plan to see Transformers 2 next week.

My daughter enjoyed her camp. She told me the details of what she ate and the floor plan of her room/area!
